About Us

Coleman Morse

The office of Academic Services for Student-Athletes, an academic unit housed in Undergraduate Education under the auspices of the Provost’s office, exists to enhance the quality of the student-athlete experience and to promote individual ownership of academic, athletic, personal, and social responsibilities. Using a variety of resources, ASSA supports all student-athletes, challenging each to maximize his or her academic potential. To meet the varying needs of student-athletes, the office provides a wide range of services including general academic support, tutoring, monitoring of academic performance, team orientation, time management assistance, information about post-graduate and scholarship opportunities, and academic recognition. These services, funded by the University, are available to all intercollegiate varsity student-athletes.

Mission Statement

The office of Academic Services for Student-Athletes offers personal and academic support to student-athletes participating in the University's highly competitive and visible education and athletic programs. As an academic unit dedicated to the ideals of excellence and independent thinking, the office provides an array of services - counseling, guidance, mentoring, and tutoring - in an effort to teach "those disciplined habits of mind, body, and spirit that characterize educated, skilled, and free human beings."*

As an advocate for student-athletes, this office works in concert with other departments to ensure that student-athletes have the opportunity and are encouraged to pursue fully the diverse academic, cultural, and spiritual riches of the University.
