Note Taking

Active Reading Introduction

Regardless of the strength of your memory, with everything that you are learning and tracking in college, notes are essential. In order to succeed, it is imperative to learn to take effective notes to make sure that you (1) identify critical content and (2) can easily see what you need to refresh your memory and make connections when writing a paper or studying for a test or quiz.

Many think that if they have with PowerPoints on Sakai or distributed lecture notes in class, they do not need to take notes but this couldn’t be further from the truth. The value of note-taking is putting information into easily-digestible format, unique to you. Refine your note-taking approach depending on the class but always be diligent in taking and reviewing notes throughout the semester to ensure success.
